When Hamish and Michael first told me about their wedding venue, I have to admit that I was really, really excited. It’s not every day that you are allowed in to The Palace of Westminster with a camera! It was an honour to capture Hamish and Michael’s wedding, not just because we were at such an iconic London landmark, but because their day was so full of love and celebration, I felt very lucky to be a part of it.
The couple were staying nearby at the fabulous St James’ Court London hotel. I met Hamish there before the ceremony to capture the pre-wedding preparations whilst Michael was welcoming guests and awaiting his groom. Their beautiful ceremony took place in an opulent but intimate room in Westminster Hall and there wasn’t a dry eye in sight as the couple exchanged their vows. Once the ceremony was complete, the couple, their families and friends all gathered on the steps in front of the stunning stained glass window in St Stephen’s Porch for a huge group shot!
Everyone then made their way outside on to the terrace. Overlooking the Thames, with Big Ben behind us and The London Eye just across the river, guests enjoyed a champagne reception with delicious canapés, chatting, laughing and enjoying the iconic London vista all around them. Hamish’s dad then gathered everyone inside to say a few words about the newlyweds and to toast them for the future with The House of Lords Champagne!
The couple and their guests then left Westminster for the evening reception in the Edwardian I Room at St James’ Court London where there was champagne on arrival and an evening of feasting, speeches and dancing and celebrating into the early hours!
