London Elopement at The Norweigian Seamen’s Church

London elopement photos

When I had the enquiry from Stine and Espen to say that they are heading to London from Norway because they want to elope, I was really excited! What a wonderful way to celebrate together. They had chosen The Norwegian Seamen’s Church, Olav Square, to be married in and wanted to capture some portraits in Kensington Gardens to enjoy London and to remember the day.

They had also decided to bring their children, parents and siblings along to celebrate with them and enjoy a trip to London.  I met with them at the Norwegian Church, which was so beautiful and had such a welcoming space inside where they provided drinks and best of all, waffles, after the ceremony! There was a relaxed feeling as the family met inside and waited for the ceremony to begin, greeting each other and chatting together.

Stine looked amazing in her elegant wedding dress with lace details, while Espen wore a traditional Norwegian bunad, which looked very striking, and together they certainly turned a few heads in Kensington Gardens.  Their two young boys were also traditionally dressed and accompanied their mum as they walked down the aisle which was a very sweet moment.

The ceremony was warm and loving, and although I couldn’t understand the language, I could see and feel the sentiment. It was also really lovely to have a musician play some beautiful music and sing during the ceremony.   It made this intimate wedding feel even more special.

The cake is also an important part of the day and Stine and Espen had a Bløtkake, or soft cake, which is a sponge cake filled with cream and topped with icing and fruit – delicious! Sharing the cake and waffles in the Church was a really lovely idea and allowed for some time to relax and enjoy the moment before we headed off to take some portraits in Kensington Gardens, while their family headed to a nearby restaurant.

Stine and Espen said they were actually quite shy about having their photos taken and the attention. This I can completely understand and relate to, however, they soon settled into the moment, enjoying their surroundings and each other.  I loved capturing their elopement for them – it was a  really wonderful day.
