A Summer Wedding at Islington Town Hall & The Depot

Becky & Jake | 30th May 2026
Becky and Jakeโs Islington Town Hall wedding was one of those days where everything just worked.
The architecture, the colour, the flowers, the warm weather โ everything felt considered, but never over-styled. More than anything, it felt easy. A day centred around people having a really good time together, with beautiful design quietly running through it.
Which is exactly the kind of wedding I love photographing.
A Mid-Century Start to Their London Wedding
I joined Becky at 11am at the mid-century home she had chosen for getting ready.
She was there with her bridesmaids and her mum and dad while hair and make-up were underway, and the house set the tone for the day immediately.
The burnt orange bridesmaid dresses and orange, yellow and peach florals worked beautifully against the warm mid-century interiors, and those colours carried through the rest of the wedding too.
Good Design, Without Trying Too Hard
Becky is an architect, and there was a clear sense of good design running through the whole day โ not in a way that felt overly styled, but in the choices themselves.
The mid-century house she chose for getting ready, the clean structure of her Sarah Seven dress, Jakeโs soft grey and green tailoring, and the burnt orange, yellow and peach flowers all sat beautifully together.
Becky wore a Sarah Seven dress from Heart Aflutter โ clean and structured through the top, with movement through the skirt and dramatic splits as she walked. She wore a veil for the ceremony before switching to a scarf for the evening, which changed the feel of it completely without needing a second outfit.
Jake wore a light grey suit with a pale green tie and olive green pocket detail. Both of their outfits were relatively understated, which gave the flowers and burnt orange bridesmaid dresses plenty of room to stand out.
It all felt very considered, but still relaxed.
An Islington Town Hall Ceremony
Their ceremony took place at Islington Town Hall at 1.30pm, with around 60 guests.
Afterwards, we kept the formal photographs simple โ around eight group photos in total, which was more than enough.
Most of Becky and Jakeโs couple portraits were taken inside the Town Hall itself, using the corridors, stairs and architecture around us. We added a few more outside The Depot later in the day, but otherwise they were free to spend their time with their guests.
That balance is always important to me.
A little direction when it helps, a few beautifully composed portraits, and then back to the day itself.
The Routemaster to The Depot N7
After the ceremony, everyone travelled together on a Routemaster bus.
Becky and Jake sat opposite each other on the top deck, one on each side of the bus, surrounded by friends and family.
Those in-between parts of a wedding are often some of my favourites to photograph. No one is waiting for the next formal moment โ theyโre just together, talking, laughing and taking it all in.
By around 3pm, we arrived at The Depot, where the celebration grew from 60 ceremony guests to around 110 for the reception.
A Summer Wedding Reception at The Depot
The wedding came at the tail end of one of the summer heatwaves, and the weather was still beautifully balmy.
The Depot really comes into its own on warm days. The courtyard gives everyone space to spill outside with a drink, while the different levels inside mean thereโs plenty of room for dinner, speeches and the evening reception without everyone being confined to one area.
That freedom works so well for a wedding like this.
People can move around, catch up, drift between spaces and actually enjoy themselves without feeling like theyโre being moved from one part of the timeline to the next.
The team at The Depot are always lovely too โ accommodating, friendly and easy to work alongside.
Sunshine, Speeches and a Very Good Party
Becky and Jake really embraced the sunshine.
Most of the afternoon was spent mingling with friends and family rather than disappearing off for long stretches of photographs, which suited the whole feel of the day perfectly.
There were five speeches, including one from Beckyโs younger sister that was particularly meaningful.
Speeches are always about more than the person holding the microphone. Iโm watching the room too โ the people laughing, the parents trying not to cry, the reactions across the tables.
Later in the evening, one of Becky and Jakeโs friends, who is a musician, played for everyone.
And from there, it became exactly what the whole day had been leading towards: a really good party.
What I Loved About This Islington Wedding
The thing I remember most is the ease of it.
The mid-century house in the morning. Burnt orange dresses. Warm flowers. Beckyโs dress moving as she walked. The Town Hall. The top deck of the bus. A sunny courtyard full of people.
Everything looked beautiful, but nothing felt like it existed purely to be photographed.
It was just lovely people having a brilliant time with their friends and family.
And for me, thatโs always the best starting point.

Planning an Islington Town Hall Wedding?
If youโre planning an Islington Town Hall wedding followed by a relaxed London reception, this kind of day is exactly what Iโm drawn to photograph.
My approach is documentary first โ concentrating on the people, atmosphere and all the little things happening around you โ with some light direction when itโs useful for portraits.
Beautiful photographs, without making the wedding feel like a photoshoot.
Beautiful. Relaxed. Candid
