A Private Autumn Elopement at Burgh House & Hampstead

Alia & Miles | 6th October 2025
Alia and Milesโ Burgh House elopement was small in every practical sense โ just the two of them, their witness, the registrar and me โ but it never felt slight.
It felt full.
Full of meaning, laughter, memories of Hampstead, soft autumn light and the kind of quiet moments that become much easier to notice when a wedding is stripped back to only the things that matter.
They are both Australian and had lived around Hampstead Heath, so choosing Burgh House and the surrounding streets for their wedding felt especially personal. They were preparing to return home to Australia, and this part of London had become part of their story.
A Private Ceremony at Burgh House
Alia and Miles privately hired Burgh House for two hours, which meant they had the whole house to themselves.
Their ceremony took place at 2.15pm in the traditional wood-panelled Music Room and was joyful from the start. There was lots of laughter and giggling between them, and nothing about it felt overly formal.
Afterwards, they had a little dance together in the room.
It was such a simple moment, but one I really loved โ just the two of them, newly married, with no audience and nowhere else they needed to be.
Those are often the moments Iโm drawn to most.
Simple, Elegant Details
Alia wore a simple silk halterneck dress with a beautifully clean shape, paired with delicate mesh slingback kitten heels with pearl detailing and elegant pearl earrings.
Miles wore a dark grey double-breasted suit and tie.
Her bouquet was made up of soft white and pale blue hydrangeas, which felt especially lovely because Burgh Houseโs courtyard was filled with large hydrangea bushes too.
It was one of those small visual details that couldnโt really have been planned better.
Champagne, Hydrangeas and Autumn Light
Because we had Burgh House to ourselves, there was time to enjoy the space rather than rushing through it.
We spent time in the courtyard, gardens and library, with champagne and photographs along the way.
The hydrangeas in the courtyard echoed Aliaโs bouquet beautifully, and the softer autumn light suited the house perfectly.
What I liked most was that none of it felt like moving through a list of photo locations.
We could simply use the spaces naturally as the afternoon unfolded.
A Hampstead Elopement in Autumn
Outside, Hampstead was at its best.
The streets were full of golden leaves, the sun was low and soft, and the whole neighbourhood had that warm autumn light that makes London feel completely different.
We wandered through the surrounding streets, making portraits as we went, before stopping at The Wells Tavern for a drink.
It wasnโt a pub chosen because it looked good in photographs. It was one of many places they had actually visited while living in the area.
That mattered.
Because Alia and Miles had lived around Hampstead Heath, the streets, the pub and the neighbourhood itself all felt connected to their story rather than simply acting as a backdrop.
A Wedding Day That Stayed Small
After the pub, we spent a little more time exploring the neighbourhood before they headed home to rest ahead of a celebratory dinner later that evening.
Just the two of them.
No big reception. No elaborate timeline. No pressure to turn the day into anything more than what they wanted it to be.
And I think thatโs what I loved most about it.
There was space in the day.
Space to laugh during the ceremony, sip champagne in the library, dance together in an empty room, wander through Hampstead and stop for a drink.
It was relaxed, thoughtful and completely theirs.
What I Loved About This Burgh House Elopement
For me, this wedding was a reminder that an elopement doesnโt need to be about doing less.
It can simply be about choosing what matters.
For Alia and Miles, that was a private ceremony somewhere meaningful to them, time together afterwards, and a part of London they wanted to remember before leaving it behind.
Thatโs the kind of intimacy I love photographing.
Not because a wedding is small, but because thereโs room to notice everything.

Planning a Burgh House or Hampstead Elopement?
If youโre planning an intimate wedding or elopement in London, I photograph days like this in a documentary way โ focusing on the people, atmosphere and the little moments that happen naturally, with some light direction when itโs useful.
Whether thatโs a private ceremony at Burgh House, a walk through Hampstead or a drink at the pub afterwards, the day doesnโt need to be complicated to feel significant.
Beautiful. Relaxed. Candid.
