The Norwegian Seamen’s Church & Kensington GardensÂ
When I received an enquiry from Stine and Espen, telling me they were travelling from Norway to London to elope, I was instantly excited. What a beautiful way to celebrate together. They had chosen The Norwegian Seamen’s Church at Olav Square for their ceremony and planned to take some portraits in Kensington Gardens, soaking up the city and creating memories of their day.
They decided to bring their children, parents and siblings with them, turning their elopement into a meaningful family celebration and a special trip to London. I met them at the church, which is such a warm and welcoming space. After the ceremony, drinks were served — and, best of all, traditional waffles. There was a relaxed, joyful atmosphere as everyone gathered, greeted one another and chatted together while waiting for the ceremony to begin.
Stine looked incredible in her elegant wedding dress with delicate lace details, while Espen wore a traditional Norwegian bunad, which was striking and beautifully symbolic. Together — along with their two young boys, who were also dressed traditionally — they certainly turned a few heads in Kensington Gardens. Their boys accompanied Stine as she walked down the aisle, which was such a sweet and heartfelt moment.
The ceremony itself was warm, intimate and full of love. Although I couldn’t understand the language, the emotion and sentiment were unmistakable. A musician played and sang during the ceremony, adding another layer of meaning and making the day feel even more special.
Cake is an important part of any celebration, and Stine and Espen shared a Bløtkake — a traditional Norwegian sponge cake filled with cream and topped with fruit. Sharing cake and waffles together in the church was a lovely way to pause, relax and truly enjoy the moment before we headed off for portraits in Kensington Gardens, while their family made their way to a nearby restaurant.
Stine and Espen mentioned that they were quite shy about having their photos taken, which is something I completely understand. Before long, though, they settled into the experience, enjoying their surroundings and simply being together. It was a real pleasure to capture their elopement — a gentle, meaningful and wonderfully intimate day.
